Summary
Augustus Charles Hobart-Hampden, often referred to as Hobart Pasha, was a career naval officer and adventurer who served in both the British Royal Navy and the Ottoman service.
Hobart Pasha's reputation as an expert in torpedo warfare was largely due to his successes in defeating Russian torpedo attacks on Turkish naval assets during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878.
