- Abstract
A summary of A L Alliman's paper read at the King's College Engineering Society on the 16th of November 1877. In the author's opinion the requirements of an ideal torpedo launch were: high speed; light draught; noiseless action and proof against rifle bullets. Topics also covered included the history of torpedo warfare; Bushnell 1770; Fulton 1797; types of torpedoes eg. fixed torpedoes, torpedoes moved by separate agents; self-propelling torpedoes and contemporary torpedo boats built by Thornycroft and Yarrow.
