- Abstract
"The Naval Committee of the Senate has we think wisely recommended the purchase of Capt. Ericsson's torpedo boat the Destroyer… The Destroyer was constructed by the Captain at his own expense, and is now offered to the Government for the modest sum of $120,000, and the patents embodied in its construction for $100,000 additional. Further than this Capt. Ericsson has offered to build for the Government, for $160,000 a vessel somewhat larger than the Destroyer and to fully guarantee its performance.
