- Abstract
"Development of this weapon probably began in the late 1950's to extend the armoury of weapons for use against NATO surface warfare groups and especially against aircraft carriers. Development of the weapon, which became Type 65-76, was sufficiently advanced for them to be in a new version of the Project 671 ('Victor' class fleet nuclear submarines) the Project 671RT ('Victor II' class) development of which was approved in June 1967. The first-of-class, K 387, was commissioned in December 1972 and 650 mm (65 cm) weapons were then incorporated into most Soviet nuclear submarines. The weapon was offered for export from 1993 as DT and DST 92. The 65 cm tube was also used to fire anti-submarine missiles such as the SS-N-15 Starfish and SS-N-16 Stallion."
