- Abstract
"Russia's first Yasen-class (Project 885) nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) was launched on 15 June at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk 17 years after construction began. Severodvinsk (K 329) had been expected to enter the water a month earlier, but the launch of the 8,600-ton boat was delayed for undisclosed technical reasons. A feature of the Yasen design is its ability to fire a variety of naval missiles, including up to 24 Novator Alfa SS-N-27 'Sizzler' cruise missiles from eight vertical launchers and SS-N-15 'Starfish' anti-submarine missiles from its torpedo tubes."
