"This article focuses on the launch of China's newest submarine. This manned submersible development is part of COMRA's Tenth Five-Year Plan, in 2002 the project cost was quoted at U.S.D. 22.5 million. Reported characteristics for the vehicle are a length of 24 feet, width of nine feet and a weight of 22 tons. Maximum mission duration would be about 12 hours with a 72-hour emergency life support system. Its 4.8-inch thick titanium pressure hull was built by Baltisky Zavod in Saint Petersburg, Russia, for delivery in late 2005."
