- Abstract
"The article reports that the hundreds of Russian families affected by the loss of submarines during the Cold War, have been woefully under compensated. An organization led by a retired Russian vice admiral is devoted to helping the victim's families, but much more needs to be done. Far from the area tourists normally frequent in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is a beautiful but run-down Orthodox Church dedicated to the memory of Russian sailors lost at sea. One of the previously unseen consequences of the Cold War arms race was the Soviet rush to get unproved submarines operational to compete with the perceived U.S. technological edge."
