- Abstract
The first Oberon experiment was carried out at Stokes Bay on the 6th of August 1874 under the direction of a special committee presided over by Sir W. Jervois . What followed was an outline of the experiments and a description of the equipment used to measure the forces generated by igniting a charge of 500 pounds of gun cotton at a depth of 48 feet and a distance of 100 feet from the Oberon.
