- Abstract
It was generally believed that when the Government purchased a torpedo boat, the boat was delivered ready for service. However, this was not the case in most instances and in many others it was completely wrong. When a torpedo boat was delivered to the Admiralty, It was taken in hand, almost pulled apart, and then fitted out for the discharge of its duties. Funnels were shifted, bulkheads cut through, and various other things done which could have compromised the structural integrity of the vessel. Happily there was the prospect that this absurd system was to be abandoned, and Messrs. Yarrow and Co. were in the forefront of those making these changes. Their boats were to be delivered complete and ready for service.
