Charles Hall was concerned that some of the comments made by R. E. Froude during the discussion of Hall's paper on "Screw Propulsion" at the 1881 meeting of the Institute of Naval Architects had been misconstrued, Froude's intention had not been to throw discredit on model experiments per se, but to point out that a considerable number of corrections needed to be applied before comparing the results with those of actual ships.
