Abstract

Further illustrations of some of the exhibits of the United States Navy Department at the Philadelphia Exhibition, namely a 8 in. by 8 in. stroke single cylinder engine, the cylinder with the valve chest, being cast in one piece with the frames and bedplate, designed and built by the Bureau of Steam Engineering of the United States Navy Department. Weighing only 550 lbs. the engine was designed to be used in cutters 33 ft. in length, 8 ft. 7 in. in beam, and 3 ft. 9.5 in. in depth.
