- Abstract
The steam yacht Miranda (length, 49 ft. 9 in., beam, 6 ft. 6 in., maximum draught at full speed, 2 ft. 6 in., speed, 18.4 miles per hour) fitted with a 6inch by 8 inch stroke twin cylinder simple inverted vertical marine engine of 8 nominal horse power, operating on steam supplied at 120 pounds per square inch supplied by a locomotive boiler with a barrel 2 ft. 6 in. in diameter and 3 ft. 5 in. in length. Built by Mr. John I. Thornycroft, of Church Wharf, Chiswick, the Miranda was hastily launched in June for the Henley Regatta, where she was engaged officially as umpire's boat, where she attained a speed of 16.8 miles per hour against the stream, working with 100 pounds per square inch of steam.
