- Abstract
Resistance and propulsion continued to pose problems for naval architects. They were and still are especially important in high-speed ships. As a general rule the faster the ship the greater the problem of combining endurance with speed. Some of the features that are conducive to efficient hull shape and propulsion at maximum power detract from the most favourable results at normal operational speed and vice versa.
