- Abstract
"Since the end of the Cold war, navies have shifted their focus to operational concepts and capabilities that enable naval and maritime units to project power and support forces ashore from the sea. It means bringing the task group or expeditionary force into confined waters and close to potentially hostile shores. Thus, as maritime forces play a more prominent role in joint power projection operations so they have found themselves increasingly deployed into complex littoral environments. It brings them within land-based threats - notably anti-ship cruise missiles launched from coastal batteries - and fast attack boats and small fast surface craft, which may attack individually or in swarms, i.e. asymmetric warfare conducted from the land."
