- Abstract
"JDW reporter Tony Skinner writes that the discussion surrounding the future of the UK's strategic deterrent is starting to heat up. On the 2nd of March 1955, in one of his last acts as UK Prime Minister, Winston Churchill opened the debate in parliament in favour of investing in a British hydrogen bomb. Major speeches by both Churchill and the leader of the opposition Clement Attlee were followed by a vote, which sent the UK further down the road towards an independent nuclear deterrent."
