- Abstract
"The Uk Ministry of Defence (MoD0 civil servant responsible for implementing the governments Maritime Industrial Strategy (MIS) announced a stark message on the scale of rationalisation required across the UK's maritime shipbuilding and support sector. Neil McCabe MIS team leader said that he expected to see significant reductions in infrastructure over the next ten years. The UK currently has three surface-shipbuilding yards, one submarine base, three naval bases, three upkeep facilities and one submarine refuelling and defuelling facility. McCabe stated that by 2016 this infrastructure is likely to have been pared down to one surface-shipbuilding facility, one submarine yard, two naval bases, a single upkeep facility and one submarine defuelling facility."
