- Abstract
The nickel-steel hulled, twin-screw, torpedo-boat destroyer Sokol (length190 feet, beam 18 feet 6 inches, draught 7 feet 6 inches; displacement 220 tons) was fitted two 4000 indicated horsepower (total) 18-inch by 26-inch by 39.5 inch by 18-inch stroke inverted-vertical triple-expansion marine engines operating on steam supplied at 150 pounds per square inch by eight Yarrow water-tube boilers; armament, two deck mounted torpedo tubes, one 12-pounder, and three 6-pounder quick-firing guns; achieved a speed of 30.25 knots during her trials at the Maplins making her the fastest vessel afloat at that time; built by Messrs. Yarrow and Co., of Poplar, for the Russian Government.
