- Abstract
An illustration of H.M.S. Hornet (length 180 feet, beam 18 feet 6 inches; trial speed 27.313 knots), the Hornet was fitted with two 18-inch by 26-inch by 39 and a half inches, inverted-vertical triple-expansion marine engines operating on steam supplied by eight Yarrow water-tube boilers. Armament; one 12-pounder, and two six-pounder guns, and three torpedo tubes, one in the bow, and two mounted on a turntable on the deck. Built by Messrs. Yarrow and Co., of Poplar, for the British Government.
