Abstract

French seagoing first-class torpedo boats could be divided into four groups; the Ouragan, the Coureur, the Avant-Garde, and the Agile types. There were five vessels (length 151 feet, beam 15.9 feet, draught 8.5 feet, displacement 148 tons; speed 21 knots; armament, two 3-pounder machine guns, four torpedo tubes) of the first type; one (length 147.6 feet, beam 14.6 feet, draught 5 feet, displacement 100 tons; speed 26.2 knots; armament four 1.75-pounder Hotchkiss guns, two torpedo tubes) of the second (with two more being built); one (length 137.7 feet, beam 13 feet, draught 7.5 feet, displacement 120 tons; speed 20.5 knots; armament four 1.75-pounder Hotchkiss guns, two torpedo tubes) of the third (five more being built); and two (length 137.7 feet, beam 13 feet, draught 7.5 feet, speed 20.4 knots; armament four 1.75-pounder Hotchkiss guns, two torpedo tubes) of the fourth (five more being built).
