- Abstract
F. G. Fowler provided a detailed description of his steering propeller that had been fitted to the U.S. torpedo ship Alarm to the readers of Engineering. Its principle advantage was its "manoeuvring" capacity, namely the ability to steer a vessel without the use of a rudder and execute a variety of complex evolutions under a full head of steam.
