- Abstract
The destroyer Som (length 213 feet at the waterline, beam 21 feet 6 inches; draught 9 feet 6 inches) built and engined by Laird Brothers, Birkenhead, for the Imperial Russian Navy had her official full speed trial on the 24th of February 1900. The Som maintained a mean speed of 27.2 knot for three hours, and attained a mean speed of 27.73 knots during six runs on the measured mile.
