Orders for the construction of a total of twelve destroyers were placed with: Messrs. Hawthorn, Leslie, and Company, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Messrs. Laird Brothers, Birkenhead, Palmer' Shipbuilding Company, Jarrow-on-Tyne, Messrs. Doxford and Sons, Sunderland, Fairfield Shipbuilding Company, Glasgow, and Messrs. Vickers, Sons, and Maxim, Barrow-in-Furness. The sum of 397,095 pounds sterling was to be expended upon their construction during the financial year ending on March 31st, 1900.
