The German Naval Estimates for 1897 included provision for the expenditure of: 14,500 pounds sterling being for the second and final instalment for a torpedo division boat costing 58,000 pounds sterling; 69,200 pounds sterling being the second and final instalment for a group of torpedo boats costing 159,200 pounds sterling; 43,650 pounds sterling being the first instalment for a torpedo division boat costing 58,200 pounds sterling excluding the cost of guns and torpedoes; 90,000 pounds sterling being the first instalment for eight new torpedo boats costing 154,400 excluding the cost of guns and torpedoes.
