- Abstract
The torpedo boat destroyer Desperate developed a minor fault towards the end of her official speed trial on the 4th of September 1896, and a supplementary trial of three hours duration had to be held on the 24th of September 1896. Fleet-engineer W. J. Harding represented the Admiralty at the trials, the contractors J. I. Thornycroft and Company, Chiswick, were represented by Mr. C. W. Keighley. The contractors J. I. Thornycroft and Company, Chiswick, also had in hand for delivery in autumn 1897 the torpedo boat destroyer H.M.S. Albatross that had a guaranteed speed of 32 knots.
