- Abstract
A critical review of Torpedoes and Torpedo Vessels, by Lieut. G. E. Armstrong, late R.N., George Bell and Sons, London, 1896. The author sought to convey to the general reader an elementary knowledge of the developments that had occurred in torpedo warfare in the period from 1866 to 1896. However, in the reviewer's opinion it would have required a book twice the size to adequately cover the design, construction, and operation of the Whitehead torpedo. A mere thirty-eight pages were totally inadequate. The coverage given to torpedo boats and catchers was satisfactory, and would have been avidly read by those interested in the development of the torpedo boat.
