- Abstract
The United States torpedo boat Ericsson broke down during trials being conducted on the 22nd of November 1894. The Ericsson had reached a speed of 23 knots, one knot below the contract speed of 24 knots, before the failure of the starboard air pump had forced the abandonment of the trials. This was the fourth time the Ericsson's official trials had to be abandoned because of mechanical failures.
