- Abstract
An alarming article and letter published in The Engineer of the 6th of April 1894 alleged that American Government officials were responsible for the theft of the drawings of the machinery of the torpedo-catcher H.M.S. Havock from the drawing office of Messrs. Yarrow and Co. of Poplar. It was also alleged that they had obtained by bribery, drawings from British shipbuilding and engineering firms at a wholesale rate, and that the lines of English yachts competing for the America Cup were available to American designers before they had begun to build the cup defenders.
