The official trial of the torpedo catcher H.M.S. Hornet (length 185 feet, beam 18 feet 6 inches; draught 7 feet 3 inches) took place in the Thames Estuary on the 19th of March 1894; the Hornet achieved a trial speed of 27.63 knots, with steam supplied by Yarrow water-tube boilers, and an air pressure oh 1.5 inches of water gauge.
