Abstract

In a paper titled 'Future policy of warship building.' Delivered at the annual meeting of the Institution of Naval Architects on the 18th of March 1891, Lord Brassey suggested that it would be advisable to have two classes of torpedo boats: first-class boats of no less than 150 tons capable of cruising with a fleet within a certain distance of the coast, and second-class boats of small size and cheap construction for harbour defence.
