A Mr. Seaton gave credit to J I Thornycroft for the invention of the use of forced draught in the closed stokehold system; however, the real credit for the invention of the application of the forced or artificial draught system belonged not to J I Thornycroft, but to the American engineer Mr. A E Stevens. The Editors of The Engineer in publishing their comments thought the matter sufficiently interesting and important that it was worthwhile that the facts should be placed on record in The Engineer.
