- Abstract
A. G. Mumford designed a range of inverted-vertical double-acting compound surface-condensing marine engines suitable for launches 20 to 36 feet in length, and built them at the Culver-street Ironworks, Colchester. The smallest engine was two and a half inches by 5-inches by 4-inches stroke, and operated on steam supplied at 120 pounds per square inch by a vertical marine boiler.
