- Abstract
In August 1886 the crew of a fishing boat recovered a torpedo in Stokes Bay that had been lost from the Polyphemus in 1883. The outer case of the torpedo was considerably worn, and holed by rust, so that it was for all intents and purposes valueless. However, the British Government paid a reward of 5 Pounds Sterling to the fishermen and made good the damage that had occurred to their nets as a result of their efforts to retrieve the torpedo.
