- Abstract
The torpedo despatch boat H.M.S. Scout was fitted with two 26-inch by 46-inch by 30-inch stroke, horizontal compound marine engines, with piston type valves; under natural draught the engines developed 2,150 mean indicated horsepower over four hours, operating at 138 revolutions per minute with steam supplied at 112 pounds per square inch; under forced draught the engines developed 3,350 mean indicated horsepower over four hours, operating at 158 revolutions per minute with steam supplied by four 10 foot by 18 foot Navy boilers with a total grate area of 204 square feet.
