- Abstract
The author was of the opinion that the leakage at the firebox end of the locomotive boilers used in Messrs. Thornycroft's torpedo boats was caused by unequal expansion occurring between the shell, the firebox and the tubes of the boiler. This could be remedied by using a corrugated boiler shell that expanded with the expansion of the tubes.
